Anfia data for 2024 highlights a dynamic and change-oriented market, with a growing focus on sustainability.

2024 was a crucial year for the bus market in Italy, with numbers that demonstrate significant growth and an increasingly evident commitment to sustainability. According to data provided by Anfia, in the period between January 1 and December 31, 2024, 4,920 buses over 8 tons were registered in our country, an increase of 19.9% compared to 2023. A figure that brings Italy closer to the threshold of 5,000 buses and that marks significant progress towards a more modern and sustainable type of mobility. The category of urban buses has seen a dramatic increase, from 1,403 units in 2023 to 2,440 in 2024 (+73.9%).

Of these, no less than 994 are electric, a figure that underlines that 4 out of 10 Class I buses are now battery-powered. This leap forward is a clear signal of the path taken towards decarbonisation and the reduction of emissions in urban contexts. The Class II segment is decreasing, falling to 1,796 units (-16.7% compared to 2,156 units in 2023). On the contrary, tourist buses show an important sign of recovery, growing by 25.1% (from 526 to 658 units). This result confirms that the road tourism sector is overcoming the last traces of the pandemic aftermath. School buses over 8 tons also showed a slight increase, going from 20 to 26 units. Diesel remains the most popular technology, with 1,740 buses registered, but records a significant decrease of 600 units compared to 2023.

Pushing towards the future are methane, with 1,246 units (+76.5%), and electric buses, which have reached 1,026. Hybrid Electric Vehicles also increased (772 units), while hydrogen vehicles reached 44 registrations. The data for 2024 highlight a dynamic and change-oriented market, with a growing focus on sustainability. The growth of electric and methane buses, combined with the diversification of traction technologies, demonstrates the sector's commitment to contributing to the ecological transition. Italy, with almost 5,000 registrations of buses over 8 tons, confirms itself as an important player in the European panorama, capable of combining innovation and sustainability.
